Combining small town appeal with proximity to larger towns, such as Elkins, WV and Harrisonburg, VA, the Seneca Rocks region averages two and a half hours of travel from Washington, DC and two hours from Charlottesville, VA.

GRANT COUNTY

With a diverse industry base ranging from wind energy to hardwoods, the same attributes that entice visitors also offer a moderate pace for businesses and their employees. Located in the heart of the WV Hardwood Alliance Zone, Grant County has 239,000 acres of forest land. It is also the home of WVU Grant Memorial Hospital, the county’s largest employer. Grant County is home to businesses such as Grant County Mulch, Allegheny Wood Products, Grant County Bank, and is home to unique tourism opportunities such as a stop on the Potomac Eagle railway, Dolly Sods Wilderness area, aerial glide tour from the Grant County Airport and Smoke Hole Caverns.

PENDLETON COUNTY

For business start-ups, business relocations or expansions, Pendleton County offers a robust business climate enhanced by diversification and corporate vitality. A number of industries call Pendleton County home including Greer Lime Company, Hinkle Trucking, CMI, Allegheny Wood Products, PCB, and Future Generations University. With almost 30% of the county encompassing the Monongahela National Forest and George Washington National Forest, Pendleton County also has unique tourism opportunities with local businesses with NRocks Outdoor Adventures, Swilled Dog Hard Cider, Dry Run Spirits, Warner’s Drive-In Theatre & Cultural Center, Fisher Mountain Golf Course, and rock climbing schools.

SENECA ROCKS REGION

The counties share the Smoke Hole Canyon which offers some of the best fishing in the state along with hiking, floating, kayaking, and 3,000 acres of National Forest. The North Fork Mountain Trail, a 24 stretch of mountainous trail, offers unparalleled mountainous views and stretches between the counties. Grant County Airport

The Grant County Airport is a general aviation (GA) facility located near the south branch of the Potomac River. The airport’s location being adjacent to Cave Mountain provides optimal “lift” conditions that make it conducive to serve as one of the few glider flying and training operations in the state. Grant County Airport maintains the “Fly and Tie” camping site, where private planes can park on the field and use the airport-maintained campgrounds that include restroom and shower amenities. The airport also serves as the site for periodic military training operations specializing in nighttime operations.
